SEYMOUR WOODS
STATE NATURAL AREA- 106 ACRES
Main Feature:
Spring woodland wildflowers. Oak-hickory woodland.
Seymour Woods contains deep ravines cut into steep shale cliffs, heavily wooded ridge tops and open fields in various stages of succession. Oak-hickory associations dominate the upper portions, but give way to sycamore, elm, maple and willow in the valley lowlands.
Many woodland wildflower species, such as harbinger-of-spring, trillium, bloodroot and spring beauties, launch the year's floral display, while in the open fields goldenrods, ironweed and asters close out the season.
The preserve was a gift to the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves from Columbus attorney, James O. Seymour in 1972.
Location:
Located in Delaware County, north of Columbus on U.S. Route 23 about 8 miles north of I-270; proceed west on Winter Road; the preserve is located .75 mile on the right. Park outside the gate and walk to the trails.
